Virginia V. Babb, age 102, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 26, 2010, after becoming ill in the family home.  One of thirteen children born to Liva (Welch) and Henry H. Vaughan of Beverly, WV, she was a young child when the family moved to Akron. 

She graduated from Central High School in 1925, attended business college, and began her career as a secretary with the Summit County Board of Education.  After taking time out to raise her children, she returned to work in 1955 for the Akron Board of Education as an elementary school secretary, and retired with thirty years of service.  She then became Secretary-Treasurer of Ambulance Associates, Inc, founded by her son, and continued a part-time association with the firm until her retirement in the Fall of 2005.

She was well known for her abilities as a full-time mother who loved sewing, cooking, vacationing, and entertaining.  Her travel highlights included Caribbean cruises and trips to Hawaii, southern France, and in 2004, attending her grandson's marriage in the Philippines.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy A. Babb, in 1965, and  former husband, C. F. Pickton, in 1993, and five sisters, and three brothers.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nazimoon Babb of Canton, and Lowell and Dianne Babb of The Woodlands, TX; four grandchildren, Jason (Kristen) Babb and Chris (Azielle) Babb, of New Jersey; Lisa Pace of Rock Creek, OH, and David Babb of Massillon, three great-grandchildren, Kylie, Madison, and Aiden Babb of New Jersey.  Also surviving are a brother, Richard W. Vaughan of Akron; and a sister, Mary Ellen Robinson of Tawas City, MI; many nieces and nephews and their families.

Calling hours were held at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home, Canton from on Sept 30th.  Funeral services were held at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, Akron, on Oct 1, 2010, with Michael Gardner of Marshfield, MA, a longtime family friend, and the sons as co-celebrants. Burial followed at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron.  Arrangements were handled by Robert A. Lewis and Stephen J. Sekeres and the staff at Welch-Sekeres-Lewis.
